FLAT COURTNEY VISITS
THE COMMONWEALTH OF
PENNSYLVANIA'S
CAPITOL
The capitol was closed on Saturday, so we
only were able to view the outside. It's very
beautiful in the front with the marble statues.
The bronze statue on the top is named "Lady Liberty".
A few years ago, she was removed and cleaned. Before
she was hoisted back to the top of the capitol building,
she was on display at the back of the capitol on
Commonwealth Avenue.
The back of the capitol was renovated in the 1980's.
Where we are standing used to be a huge parking lot.
Not anymore! There are granite walkways and a large
water fountain behind the capitol along Commonwealth Avenue.
This park was dedicated to all Pennsylvania residents who have served
in this great nation's armed forces. The park is called "Soldiers Grove".
